    Hi,

    I have a few questions.

    I am going to setup a site for a friend who uses Mac OSX, any special things I should configure? Because eg with the "seashell" template there is a MAC OSX dir containing some files.

    Another website I setup has a strange problem. The end user cannot upload pictures through the quickeditor, even when he is using my (admin) account. This is the error he gets (on an XP sp2 machien over IE7 and running Norton SS) .

    [tt]INCLUDE_ORDERING_CODE
    Please use the ModX content manager instead of accessing this file directly[/tt]

    On this same site Firefox is showing the "h" ( H as in h1, h2, h3) smaller than on IE7 how do I tackle this?

      We’re on OSX10.3.9 - no problems with the modx interface.

      Perhaps the seashell template, has a mac hack - check the file type if it’s a .css

      With regard to http://www.shiftingperspectives.com.au.

      You might want to validate the code, then look for browser specific handling.

        Don’t worry about that Mac file; it’s a filesystem metadata file that Mac uses. Anything that I make up an archive for distribution of will have it. You can delete it if you want to; I believe a Mac system will just create a new one.

          Okay,

          did that check on strict XHTML and loads of mistakes!
          Most are out now, but some (33) remain.
          Al in these lines:
          <div class="main-subcontent"><!--  margin-top="50px"-->
                      <quickedit:mainrighttv /><h1><font size="2"></font></h1>
          <h1><font face="helvetica" size="2"><font color="#333333"><font size="1"></font></font></font></h1>
          <h1><font face="helvetica" size="2"><font color="#333333"><font size="1"></font></font></font></h1>
          <h1><font face="helvetica" size="2"><font color="#333333"><font size="1"></font></font></font></h1>
          <h1><font face="helvetica" size="2"><font color="#333333"><font size="1"></font></font></font></h1>
          <h6><font face="helvetica"></font></h6>
          <h6><font face="helvetica"></font></h6>
          <h6><font face="helvetica"></font></h6>
          <h6><font face="helvetica"></font></h6>
          <p>

          </p>
          <p>

          </p>
          <h6><font face="helvetica">S H I F T I N G  P E R S P E C T I V E S  -  inspired learning  </font></h6>
          <p>

          </p>
          <h1><font face="helvetica" size="2"><font color="#333333"><font size="1"></font></font></font></h1>
          <h1></h1>
          <h1><font size="2"><font color="#333333"></font></font></h1>
          <p dir="ltr">
          <font color="#333333"><font face="helvetica" size="2">We are inspired by the potential of people to grow beyond today’s boundaries and to make choices that support and respect themselves, others, as well as our natural living environment.<br />
          </font></font>
          </p>

          This source code was generated over the quick editor by a TV (TV settings: rich text )

          This is part of the HTML output of the richtext editor and it seems the font sizes etc are not validated well:

          <h1><font size="2"></font></h1>
          <h1><font face="helvetica" size="2"><font color="#333333"><font size="1"></font></font></font></h1>
          <h1><font face="helvetica" size="2"><font color="#333333"><font size="1"></font></font></font></h1>

          etc...

          And these are a few of the errors reported:

          Line 57 column 27: there is no attribute "size".
          <h1><font size="2"></font></h1>

          Line 57 column 30: element "font" undefined.
          <h1><font size="2"></font></h1>

          etc...

          Is this normal, or is there a mistake in my setup someweher else?

          I also read that eg target=_blank is not validated well either and I should not use it? Maybe forget about the validation? All I want is that the page displays more or less the same in various browsers.

            That’s right, there is no "target=" attribute in XHTML strict. I always use XHTML 1.0 Transitional for just that reason. There are a number of articles around the web discussing the pros and cons of XHTML strict validation, and many have come to the conclusion that the web really isn’t ready for XHTML at all yet, since browsers mostly "validate" it through kludges. For example, a self-closing tag such as <img src=... /> only appears to work because of the space before the closing /> part; the browsers don’t recognize that sequence, and so automatically close the tag at that point.

            I pretty much only use the validation tools to look for obvious coding errors and ignore the stuff that I know is OK and that I actually want.

              Okay, understood,thanks, leaves me wth one issue:

              Another website I setup has a strange problem. The end user cannot upload pictures through the quickeditor, even when he is using my (admin) account, I can however do that using my or his account. Both on XP sp2 and IE/, site is in the trusted zone on both machines Firewall "off" on both machines. Only difference is that he is using Norton Internet Security Suite and I am not (dont like Norton). This is the error he gets:

              INCLUDE_ORDERING_CODE
              Please use the ModX content manager instead of accessing this file directly

              Could this be Norton Security? Are there known issues with Norton. I did not find anyin the forum.

                Well, have him turn off the Norton and give it a try. There have been a number of oddities with various security/firewall/antivirus programs interfering.
