    I have a website that uses 0.9.5 RC3 and I wish to upgrade it to 0.9.6 RC1.

    I copied the manger, assets, install, index.php, etc. from the 0.9.6-RC1 tar file into the root of my website.
    I added config.inc.php from a copy of the 0.9.5 RC3 site.
    I went to the /install interface in my web browser and the "upgrade installation" options are disabled. The only option I can select is "new installation".

    I’ve done this dozens of times before upgrading between other versions. What am I missing? Something obvious I guess. tongue

      Is the config.inc.php file still on the server? (manager/includes/config.inc.php)

        Yes. I saved a copy before replacing the manager folder, and then I restored it. So it is the 0.9.6-RC1 manager folder containing the 0.9.5 RC3 config.inc.php file.

          I’ve tested it on several different servers now, and as long as the manager/includes/config.inc.php is in the right place, it seems to work for me; the upgrade options are enabled for sure. Double-check it’s in the right place, and make sure and start a fresh browser session for the install (i.e. close all browser instances so the session cookies get killed).

            Duh - I forgot to make config.inc.php writeable.

            Next problem - the installer says "database connection failed!". OK, so I check the contents of config.inc.php, which I haven’t changed. Username, password and database are still in there.

            I go to the command line:

            mysql -uandy -p

            log in with the password. Then:

            use geodriftcom

            and I’m in. My config.inc.php shows:

            $database_type = 'mysql';
            $database_server = 'localhost';
            $database_user = 'andy';
            $database_password = 'mypassword';
            $dbase = 'geodriftcom';
            $table_prefix = 'modx_';

            So I’m using the correct username, password and database name. The server is localhost as this is the only server I am using for MODx and MySQL. Any ideas what obvious thing I am missing?

              Andy, we’re working on making this more intuitive before final release, but I think you just need to select the upgrade option that allows you to edit the database settings and refill in the database username and password. This step is only necessary because you are upgrading from a pre-0.9.6 build, and you need to select the new config values for the charset and collation. You can ignore the admin username and password during this step; it will be either hidden in the final release when choosing this upgrade option, or possibly required to execute the upgrade installation as a security measure to prevent upgrades being executed by malicious users.

                That worked, thanks!
