Good evening fellow MODX community members,

I have searched every where and could not find any answers to my question, so I thought it was time to ask the question myself. I am having a heck of a time trying to get the latest release of MODX Revo. installed using Mac OS X Lion 10.7.1 Server. Is the reason I am having such a hard time getting it to work because Apple has changed their default data base from MySQL to PostgreSQL in this new Lion Server release? I am very aware that I can use MAMP to install MODX Revo. on this OS and the regular one. However, in all honestly I would like to try and use the Lion Server functionality and services with MODX because if I can't then it makes no sense for me to even be using this OS, when I can easily run MODX using MAMP on the regular Lion OS.

If the reason I can't seem to get MODX Revo. to work is in fact because Apple's change to the type of data base they are now using, is there anyway to work around this? Does anyone know if and when MODX will work with PostgreSQL? If anyone has been successful in installing and using MODX Revo. with the Lion Server OS, I sure would be very appreciative if you could explain to me in detail how you went about doing so.

    Thank you,

    AMMOCAN

    • Don't own any iProducts, but MODX does not support PostgreSQL. From what I know it's not in development or on the immediate roadmap.

There seem to be ways to install MySQL on Lion Server though: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/6317614/getting-mysql-work-on-osx-10-7-lion

      • I would rather imagine that MacPorts has the easiest way to install MySQL. There's a dashboard widget for starting it, as well.

Installing MySQL on OS X Lion http://www.djangoapp.com/blog/2011/07/24/installation-of-mysql-server-on-mac-os-x-lion/
This may be useful as well http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4844(Configuring PHP for MySQL)

If all you are trying to do is run MODX then MAMP is all you really need. It is not too hard to set up multiple sites either if needed.

Or maybe the way described here: http://akrabat.com/php/setting-up-php-mysql-on-os-x-10-7-lion/ which I may try - [ed. note: whistlemaker last edited this post 12 years, 7 months ago.]

I appreciate all the responses. However, none of the responses were helpful in helping me solve my problem. It's probably real obvious that I decided to go a different route, as this post is subsequent to the last post of two months.

I really thought I had made my thread very clear in what information I was seeking, but from the responses I received it seems that wasn't the case because the posts simply just added to what I already knew and pointed out.

Anyhow, thanx again for taking the time to respond and for trying to help.

And what was the 'different route'?

I really thought I had made my thread very clear in what information I was seeking
perhaps if you had replied and refined your question you would have had more responses, possibly even a useful one! ... and we could have all learned something.
              • I think what you want to do is to run MODx on the pgsql that is provided by default on a Lion server. MODx does not support pgsql at this time, as far as I know so far it supports MSSQL and MySQL.

@sottwell: Yes, you are correct. I was in fact trying to figure out a way to run MODx on PostgreSQL, which is what the Lion server OS uses.

@whistlemaker: I ended up just installing MODx in an external server environment.
