Bug or Feature ? DB password with single quote character

I tracked down a problem I was having to the db password that was set in core/config/config.inc.php

I had used a pw generator to generate a new password when I moved my site to a new host.

The new pw happened to start with a sinqle quote character, which is valid for mySQL but caused modX to halt with a blank screen and no errors logged. I guess it is like setting an empty password value since there are back to back single quotes.

The config entry looked something like:
$database_password = ''1234';

Is this a bug or a feature? It seems at the least that some type of error logging would be helpful here.
