Sigh,
For no apparent reason, I enabled CAPTCHA out of curiosity. Now I can’t login to Manager because the security code image doesn’t load.
Using MODx 0.9.6 RC1 ... it is some kinda known bug?
[SOLVED]
Went into database and searched ’captcha’. Found the field ’usecaptcha’ in ’system_settings’ table. Changed it from ’1’ to ’0’.
I still wonder why though, security code/turing image doesn’t show up.

Does your php have the necessary GD libraries?
Whoa! This is all new to me. How do I know whether GD or Freetype is enabled on my server? I have the same problem where now I can no longer log into ModX after I turned the Captcha protection on.

You can clear your login form by using phpMyAdmin or whatever database client your hosting provides to change the setting in the system_settings table (browse the table, find the row for "use_captcha", edit it and change the 1 to 0). Then once you can log in to the Manager, go to Reports -> System Info, and click the "view" link for phpinfo. In the first block, in the Configure Command section, you’ll need to see something like ’--with-gd’ and ’--with-freetype-dir=/Applications/MAMP/Library’ (the path will be different for your installation).
You can also scroll down through the alphabetical listing of available modules configured, and look for the GD configuration information; something like
GD Support enabled
GD Version bundled (2.0.34 compatible)
FreeType Support enabled
FreeType Linkage with freetype
FreeType Version 2.3.4
T1Lib Support enabled
GIF Read Support enabled
GIF Create Support enabled
JPG Support enabled
PNG Support enabled
WBMP Support enabled
XBM Support enabled
Thanks. I managed to get in with your method. I also confirmed that GD library and Freetype settings in the Configure Command section. My web host has also confirmed that the GD libraries are enabled in PHP 4.4.4
With Captcha enabled, however, I still do not have an image displayed.
