Wayfinder only shows first item after update to 2.3.2

I updated two sites to wayfinder 2.3.2 - both on Revo 2.1.3 - both on the same host
One is fine.
The other is not - only the first menu item shows up.
However if I use a wayfinder call with &level=`1` the menu is there (but no drop downs obviously) ... leave out the &level or use 0 or 2 and I only get the first menu item.

I tried copy and paste the wayfinder call from the working site - still didn't work (this is how I discovered that &level=`1` works)

I can live with it but I would really love to know what is wrong.

Reverting to wayfinder 2.3.1 and everything works again
Nothing in the modx error log

Any ideas?

Unfortunately the suggestions did not help.

perhaps in the messing around with calls I did I ended up pasting in something that was misleading.

This call works fine in one site and not the other:

&startId=`` makes no difference

Adding &level=`1` to either of these calls and I get all six top level menu items - but no sub menus or drop downs (which is what I would expect from using this parameter).

One site does have more add-ons but I think what might be the important difference is the the site that is not working has extra user groups and access permissions on a few pages.

That might be the culprit - see the other thread about Wayfinder duplicating items.
But I don't know enough about permissions, so I cannot help here.
