Polish Character Set Problem

Have searched through the forum and found a few previous posts, e.g. https://forums.modx.com/index.php/topic,3584.0.html but I am still not getting this solved. After saving text with Polish characters, most of them are turned into "?". This happens whether I use TinyMCE or not.

I am on MODx Evo 1.05

In MODx Tools/Configuration, character encoding is UTF-8
In config.inc.php it's $database_connection_charset = 'utf8';
$database_connection_method = 'SET CHARACTER SET';
Checked MyPHPAdmin for database settings there and it's utf8_general_ci


I have tried the index.php suggestion from the linked forum thread but that made no difference. Is there something else I'm missing? The site is English/Polish multi-lingual.

Check the encoding of the individual tables and fields. If any are not UTF-8, see this: http://bobsguides.com/convert-db-utf8.html
