Hello
I'm really intrested in making my own website, and am seeking out ways to do so.
Im currently looking at CMS, and ModX was one that came up quite frequently while researching, and i like what i see from the screenshots and demos.
I am curious on something. The website I'm thinking of designing could become very large, as i'm wanting it to be a community project database... similar to Discogs, or IMDb.
Ive looked at Wiki's and they just don't suit my needs (too fiddly, and wouldn't be very user friendly).
I want to allow users (by that i mean registered users), to be able to fill out a form (like those on Discogs and IMDb) which is as far away from complex coding as possible, so just inputting text in boxes, ticking boxes and selecting options really. And then from filling out this "form", a new page containing the information will be created; and can then be edited by the community later.
I was wondering if ModX is capable of doing this?
Many Thanks
Dan.
Yes, definitely. In fact, there are a number of different ways to do this in MODX. I think the NewsPublisher front-end editor might be the easiest way. Once it's set up, logged in "community" members will see an edit button on all pages that will launch NewPublisher for that page.
You can use resource content fields and template variables for the various fields users need to fill in.
Another way to go would be to use FormIt for the front-end form and create your own custom DB table(s) to hold the information. That would be more efficient -- especially if there will be thousands of pages -- but more difficult to set up.
