I have had this issue before and i cannot remember how i foxed it but I've exhausted every possible solution i'm aware of so need to ask for assistance.
My menu is adding extra titles inside the <a> tag like so:

My wayfinder call is:

The row chunk is:

the inner row chunk is:

Can anyone see anything wrong with the above?
i have used very similar settings on many MODx sites and not had this issue but there must be something that causing the extra title to be generated.

removing that does not make any difference and interestingly when i check the source there is no extra title so i am wondering if this might be a caching issue, although i have cleared the cache and tried validating in Firefox and Chrome!!!
Any chance i could pm you the URL just for a quick check?

What doctype are you using? I've run across some odd bugs in the W3C validator before.

I was thinking it might be the doctype too.
After initially writing the site using html5 and having issues with layouts in ie 6, 7 & 8. i re-wrote it in XHTML 1.0 Transitional.
I have actually now changed it to the following (the reason being that the site wasn't working in ie9 but now it is):
