Does changing templates delete old template variables

Hi Guys,

Wanted to ask a question about Template variables.

I have a workflow that will essentially looks like below.
https://docs.google.com/drawings/d/18j3i1Spnl8eCg9-yiO-uhm96IDbWRyzwP51MYVByzkY/edit?hl=en_US

After the document is published, all of the TVs in template one are redundant.

Do they remain in the database? are they stored? I'm concerned I may unnecessarily bloat the DB.

TVs are not deleted when a template is deleted. TVs can be assigned to multiple templates, and their default values can be used via the API even if they aren't assigned to any template, so deleting them automatically is not a good idea.
