I have noticed that many user in the forum don't have the avatar.
I am not 100% sure about this, but I think that the new forums get the avatar from gravatar.com. Yes they use Gravatar, see this ->
http://rtfm.modx.com/display/ADDON/Discuss.Features.
What is gravatar? Here's the explanation taken from the website itself: "Your Gravatar is an image that follows you from site to site appearing beside your name when you do things like comment or post on a blog".
So get your Gravatar Today, the forum looks dull without them
->
http://en.gravatar.com/.
Edit: when a user modify his profile in these forums, is not mentioned anywhere that the forum is connected to gravatar. I think it would be better to write something like this: Email (will be used by Gravatar). Ok, not exactly this maybe, but you get the idea.
