In the old forum you could see when a new post had been created, where it was created and by whom without having to log in. Although I am not completely sure that I see this function even when logged in - I see two post in bold black and the rest are light grey - possibly for older posts ?

Unless i'm totaly stupid, I get the impression that I have to go through all of the indivdual categories to find the latest posts and to see if they are of interest or not, or if I could possibly help the person who has the problem.

Although the old forum had problems with spam, hackers etc. I personaly think that the new software should have been tested a lot longer to get rid of bugs and problems.

No one-solution is perfect, but, downing something thats been used for almost 5 years without fully testing the new software is IMHO not the right way to go. Sorry

We are working on adding new features to this forum daily. It is over 26,000 lines of code and has nearly all the features that SMF and Vanilla have. We also spent weeks writing upgrade scripts to merge accounts out of SMF (no trivial task) and into our SSO accounts at modx.com. The forum is more usable, is completely in MODX, and is easily extensible.

We also opened up the forums for over 1 month to Partners and then the general public for testing. This was not an issue reported during that time.

Not to mention, we're also doing this while managing and developing 30+ Extras, the MODX product itself, and many, many other things. And for free.

Patience is key. If you have an issue, please file it here: http://bugs.modx.com/projects/discuss-skin/issues

We will get to your issues in time. If you would like to give back and contribute to this free project, please do so by signing a CLA here and either helping write documentation, submitting pull requests for fixes, or donating. This is open source, after all. smiley

          @splittingred

I get the feeling by reading your post, that you have taken my post a little to personal.

          • I know that MODx is Open Source and what that means (Although Open source doesn't necessarily mean there is no commercial backing / financing)
          • I contribute to the community where and when I can help
          • I, like many others, know that the Dev-team work hard to get the MODx software working

(List is not being renderred as list points)

Its obvious that the Dev team is strapped for time, since Revolution was released to the public - having two systems (Evo, Revo) running at the same time is understandably a lot of work.

Publicly releasing another system (as such a Forum is a huge project) that still has a load of work to do, seems to me as if the MODx team are burning the candle at both ends.

This is obviously my opinion and as such could cause some controversy under the Dev. team and members of the forum.

Sure there are some issues with the forums but I don't think anything is big enough a problem to seriously affect usability. I'm enjoying the new forums more than before despite the few bugs and quirks (most of which the devs are aware of and addressing). As with any new product you need a bit of patience and time to adjust.

Also, it's very normal for issues to pop up after a launch that could never have been foreseen during testing. As has been suggested again and again, be constructive and submit bug reports rather than complaining on the forums where your feedback may well be missed by the core team.

Personally, I would be happy to use the forum in its current state for as long as it takes, rather than having development of Revolution delayed at all.
