    Hi,

I am a very beginner in MODX, after trying different other CMS I think this is one of the best even seen. But I've a little problem. If I create a new website I use XAMPP to realize it, before uploading to the webspace. So far so good, I installed MODX and it worked fine with xampp, but now I d like to install some 3rd party plugins like "Wayfinder" of "Tiny" but if I go to System-->Package Manager --> Download Extras and click to e.g. "Wayfinder" there comes the following message
    _____________________________________________________
"An error occurred while connecting to the Provider: MODX received a blank response from the provider. Please double check your service URL and make sure the provider is a valid provider."

So after this I tried to manually download this plugin and install it with www.mydomain.com/install
but if I go through the installation there is the following message

    Pre-install validation

Setup has carried out a number of checks to see if everything's ready to start the setup.

Creating connection to the database: Database connection failed!

Please check the database login details and try again.
    Database could not be selected!

Please check the database permissions for the specified user and try again.

Unfortunately, Setup cannot continue at the moment, due to the above 2 errors. Please correct the errors, and try again. If you need help figuring out how to fix the problems, visit the Operation MODx Forums.
    ________________________________________________________________

I am definitly connected to my Database... Can I install plugins when I use XAMPP?

    Kind Regards

You should be able to install them through Package Manager. Make sure you have cURL enabled. It's off by default in XAMPP.

      Modify this file:

      xampp\php\php.ini

Uncomment this line (remove the semicolon) to enable cURL:

      ;extension=php_curl.dll

You'll need to restart the server after making the change.

If that doesn't work, you can install them, but not with /setup. Copy the package transport.zip file to your core/packages directory. Then, in Package Manager, click on "Add New Package" and "Search Locally for Packages" The package should then show up in the grid and you can just click on its "Install" button.
