Is it possible to set a generic username and password for a section of my modx site?
For example, I have a section for ’Partcipants’. Is it possible to set up this section so all participants can access this section with the same (not unique) username and password and with simultaneous login (more than one participant logging in at the same time, with this generic username and password)?
Thanks

Doing that is begging for people to overwrite each other’s changes and is not a good idea. Can be done, but no locking of individual pages by the same user.

If you are talking about the frontend then just create a webuser and give your participants the username and password of that webuser.

The problem with that is that there are no locks with that method to prevent two people from editing the same document simultaneously and overwriting each-other’s work.

I am pretty sure that webusers can’t edit documents. That only applies when you make a manager user so they have access to the manager.
Of course you should still take care to not have a snippet like ChangePassword or the PPP snippet on a page that is accessible by the participants. But if it is just pages with some text that are being served then I don’t really see a problem.
What if I lock down the user’s priveledges so they cannot make any edits/changes and purely have viewing only access - will this work?
Also, can multiple users access the section with the same username simulatenously?

Check out my sottwell.com site... I’ve got a simple role for the guest user, he can view just about everything, but can’t edit or change anything. The wording in the role configuration is a bit misleading; "edit" actually means "view", "save" means able to save, whether any changes were made or not.
