I have created a top menu OK but now would like to have a secondary side menu that shows up on each page that lists just the child documents related to that particular page. I understand that this might involve template variables?
Also, I have posted a few other support items on this forum and found that each were removed. Can anybody tell me what I am doing wrong?
Thanks
I’ve used the MollioMenu provided by Mollio Template Packages. Browse the Template Section in Resource on www.modxcms.com. Hope it helps.
Thanks guys! I have set up the menu system as what was instructed in the examples with very limited success. Here are the problems I am having:
I can only get the main menu to show if the Start ID is ’0’. And even then, it shows ALL of the pages at the root of my document tree, instead of just those in my MAin Menu Folder. If I use any other number other than ’0’ as my start id, no menu shows at all. The secondary menu does not display at all.
Let’s backtrack a bit: First of all, as a newbie, I am exactly not sure what the Start ID is. Does it refer to the number that is in brackets beside the page name in the document tree? Or is it the menu index number? Or something else? If it is the page number in brackets does the fact that I am using Friendly URLS have any impact on how WayFinder works? In other words, there is no longer any numbers to reference in the page URL.
Thanks,

The "startId" needs to be the document ID (the number next to the document’s name in the Tree). Then the menu will be built up from all of that document’s children. If the document has no children, there will be nothing displayed.
There is an option, &level=... to determine how many levels of menu to display. For many main menus, &startID=`0` &level=`1` would be appropriate, as it will only build the first level of the menu from the top-level documents.
The Menu Index determines in what order the documents will appear in the menu.
Friendly URLs has no bearing on this at all; the basic URLs are mapped by the MODx parser after links are determined (after all, it needs to know the document ID before it can get the document’s data, including its alias), and the incoming mapping is handled by the .htaccess file from the Apache end.
Thanks. This call works in my template to display my full menu tree:
[!Wayfinder? &startId=`0` &level=`3`!]
But any calls made with any other number than ’0’ does not work, such as:
[!Wayfinder? &startId=`1` &level=`3`!] or
[!Wayfinder? &startId=`12` &level=`3`!]
even though I have documents which have these ids and which have child pages to them.
For example, I have a page in my document tree that is labeled "Services (33)". If I understand things correctly, I should be able to enter ’33’ as the start ID and the menu would be built to include any pages that are below that item in the document tree. But this does not work.
I am afraid that I am missing some key "aha" type of information.
thanks
That should work, are the pages published, and do the pages have the show in menu box checked?
I’m not sure what I was doing wrong but now everything works exactly as I wanted. I think I might have been updating the wrong template.
Wayfinder works GREAT! Thanks for all the helpful replies!
