Hello!
We are attempting to use a Flash Map that brings in information stored in an XML file into MODx. We’ve used this same file on a number of other sites within a non-CMS environment and the only thing we’ve ever had to do was place the Flash SWF file onto the page and make sure the XML pages and map data were in the same folder as the published HTML files. We’ve got the file showing on the page but the data is not being brought into the Flash file... and we’ve been trying to change the flash file’s config settings, etc. Does anyone have any experience with this sort of thing?
Further investigation into this issue - we’ve been testing the site in Safari and Firefox (we’re Mac based) and Safari is telling us that a file called crossdomain.xml is missing? Would this have anything to do with the above problem or is this something entirely different?
Without more info on your map program, I don’t see any problem specific to MODx that should come up here. I’ve used Flash slideshows and RSS aggregators with imported XML files in MODx sites without doing anything special, and I know that MaxiGallery uses at least one image gallery format that requires linking to an XML file. Check your paths and base href tag (if you have one). You might just be trying to load the XML file without a "www" before the domain name or some other minor difference that would seem to Flash as if the file were hosted elsewhere. You also might try making your Flash map work from a normal HTML file first if you can’t get it to work from within MODx.
Yes, we figured out that this was a "path" issue with the config file, the flash file and the MODx system - they all needed the same path info - now it’s working! We also turned off TinyMCE as it really screws things up - not to mention there is a new version available but thigs work better for us with it off.
You can turn off TinyMCE on just those pages, or you can include the Flash map code as a snippet, chunk, or template variable so that it doesn’t get scrambled by the RTE.
TinyCME screws up every page it’s touched so far - it’s a horrible editor, as far as I’m concerned. It’s a huge hindrance to the script and doesn’t do MODx any justice, what so ever.
