If I understand correctly, the 0.9.5.1 release is being migrated to the Mootools javascript library, and was just wondering what everyone’s thoughts were on the different javascript libraries out there, in terms of strengths and weakness (i.e. Mootools, jQuery, Dojo, Yahoo UI, Prototype)?

The fact that we chose mootools should be telling. It’s a tradeoff of flexibility, power and lightweight resources. smiley

Mootools has definitely outgrown Protoype in my opinion and I’m glad MODx is making the swap. For the front-end however I’ve started using jQuery more lately and sof ar I’m happy with it.

In one of the current projects I’m working on I have to build an "interactive" grid with quite a bit of javascript animation. I started out using mootools fx functionality but mootools didn’t cope with the many mouse events generated resulting in a lot of flickering, lasting for seconds after the last mouse event took place. jQuery dealt much better with this and consequently I rewrote the application. I’m guessing the difference lies in the way mootools caches events.

It all depends on the application. I think none of the libraries are a be all end all solution. It pays off testing solutions in more then one.
