    Hi,

I cannot, for the life of me, work out what I’m doing wrong.

I’m making a new install of 0.9.5 on a server (different web site) where I already have modx up-and-running with no problems. To save waiting for an age, I uploaded the zip file, and unzipped via the file manager. I then moved the files to the html directory. suexec is installed, so I set the file permissions to 644 and 755 (actually, they were already at those values).

Now, when I go to MyDomain/install, all I get is a 500 internal error message. I have reinstalled the modx files, just in case, but still no joy. Any ideas?

    Thanks.

      Hi,

For some reason - and I have no idea why - the install page came up when I tried this again tonight. I had not reinstalled - I’m at a loss to explain why this is so.

Anyway, theree times I’ve created the DB, completed the install (successfully, acording to the installer), only to find that I yet again receive a 500 internal server error. As I said before, I have another site running on the same server, without any problems.

      Any ideas?

Sounds like something to do with the .htaccess files. A .htaccess file affects all directories below it, so if you need a different ruleset for a group of folders you need to have a valid .htaccess file in that folder. That’s why the /manager folder has one that does nothing more than turn off the rewrite engine for the Manager.

          Hi Susan,

I just copied across the .htaccess file from my modx site that is up-and-running, and all is well. However, I am really confused by this. The ht.access file (which I did remember to rename) has exactly the same contents as the file I copied across. My first thought was that it might be to do with ascii/binary and uploading the file, but I actually uploaded the zipped file, and unzipped on the server. The two files are CHMODed similarly too. huh

This install is just plain weird!

I now have a basic page set up, with links to modx css files. The source (both in FF and IE) shows the links are correct; the css appears to be ignored by FF, but not IE. Files are published, the site is online. It is exactly the same situation if I turn off FURLs. Does this sound familiar to anyone - what have I missed?

            Thanks.

Edit: I rechecked the CSS files. I had some set to html instead of CSS on content settings. rolleyes
