Purging logs, is it possible

Is there any way of purging log entries short of doing it in mysql? Is there a way to limit the number of log entries e.g. keep the last 500? I’m looking for a way for office admin types to maintain sites without having to jump thru too many hoops.

Under Reports > System Events, there’s a clear logs button.

Under Reports > Manager Actions do a search (just click the button) then an "empty logs" option appears.

You can also do the same thing by clicking the underlined numbers in Tools > Backup (works for truncing and optimizing tables).
