I am interested in creating a directory of professionals in my neighborhood. The admin will create the site and sections for the various professions listed. The users will be able to register under these sections and be able to create a resume/profile and an image gallery of their portfolio. The portfolio will be accessible through a link from their profile.

The navigation will works as below:

    www.sitename.com/section1/user1.... user2 and so on
    www.sitename.com/section2/userA... userB and so on.

Besides this just clicking on www.sitename.com/section1 will take one to the section with all the users registered under that section listed in the page.

These urls will make it easy for the users to tell others about their online profiles.

Can this be done through ModX? I am also looking at Joomla with the Community Builder Plugin as an option.

I am a beginner in PHP and CMS so I will need a fair amount of handholding so I can achieve the above. Any help will be appreciated.

with ppp snippet you can handle the registration and resume thing, but for the urls, i think you would need to modify it a bit to make a weblink on user registration with the user name under some section container to have that url structure.

I could not locate the ppp snippet in Modx site. Anyway, is there any other CMS better suited for my purpose?

What doze says here makes sense to me. You could probably just add a line to the user registration snippet to create a weblink for each new user. Or you could use an .htaccess rewrite rule to forward say www.sitename.com/section1/user1 to something like www.sitename.com/section1/showuser?user=user1.

Thanks guys, I’ll try out the snippet and will ask for more help on how to customize the .htaccess for rewriting urls.
