There are a number of articles and tutorials on moving a MODx site. When moving from a subfolder to the root, the only thing is to make sure to change the Configuration settings for the paths and urls needed for file manager and the rich text editor’s resource manager. It can also be a problem if your paths to images in your content are full urls rather than relative (i.e. "
http://mysite.com/modx/assets/images/image.png", rather than "assets/images/image.png")
I have my MODx site inside a /modx directory in the WebServer Root, togheter with many other subdir that must continue to work after I go live with the MODx-driven content.
Should I move /assets etc to root as described here or should I leave MODx in its own directory and change the Apache HTTP.conf (or .htaccess) to redirect the default web server response in there ??!
thanks!
addressing and changing a relative path and urls as mentioned before and moving folders is necessary both togather.
cause we’r assuming to move all the contents to somewere else like root or whatever.
but redirecting is another thing!, if you wanto simply redirect visitors from root to desired place dont touch any folder or setting, simply change .htaccess file to address it and thats all!
Successfully reconfigured the server by:
- updated HTTPD.conf to point by default to the modx directory
- created simbolic links from the Modx directory to all other subdirs on the server that must continue to work as before
- updated the ’Resource URL’ in the Manager->Tools->Configuration
- no changes in .htaccess (friendly URLs where already active before the switch and they kept working OK)
...just an alternative approach, hope it helps someone!
