Breaking into new territory here and hoping for some guidance. I haven’t worked with web users on any sites yet as it has been needed, but looking to add a paid content section to a site now.
There may be different area of content that users can individually buy/subscribe to:
- Paid 1
- Paid 2
- Paid 3
- Paid n
Eventually, when ShopX gets all worked out and can hopefully handle subscriptions, I hope to integrate it as well. But for, as I don’t think there is any packaged solution, I will simply utilize PayPal.
My initial thought is to have a registration that initially places the user in a registered group... which probably won’t be any different than a public user.
Then when they subscribe to content, they’ll either provide their user name or email which I’ll match up manually to the appropriate paid content.
This is where it starts to get a little fuzzy...
Would each of the paid content areas be a separate User Group? Or would it be a Document Group?
e.g.,
- User registers, gets placed in Registered Users.
- Users purchases/subscribes to Paid 1 and Paid 3
- I receive payment/confirmation from PayPal
- I then add that user to Paid 1 and Paid 3... ? Group
- User is then able to access the paid content they paid for without access to the other sections, unless they also subscribe to them
So just trying to figure out the best way to set that up.
Also, if the paid section links are in a Wayfinder navigation with Show in menu, will the links be visible to everyone, or only those who are assigned to that group? This would be ideal, but otherwise I assume that if the links are public they will probably just be told that they don’t have permission to access... less ideal.
Will these pages show up in the sitemap? search (I wouldn’t think so)?
Any thoughts or advice is of course welcome as well. I’m looking forward to delving into this new area!
thanks
