Before I get ahead of myself here I would like you to know I’m very fond of MODx and I think it’s basically the best CMS out there.
*note: Please don’t hurt me for asking
My question: Would anyone be willing to trade services? I’m a prof. photographer with a background in graphic design and web development and am looking for someone to possibly set up my modx cms in exchange for photography, either freshly commissioned for your own projects or I would be willing to send you any number of prints of material I’ve already shot.
my photo blog is here: photo.ramidaud.com (you can check and see I actually know what i’m doing)
this is where I work: photo.medina-gazette.com
What i need: I need to create a website using our "new look": ramidaud.com/newsite.jpg
Why am I asking for help? Because to be honest, This project was thrown at me with little/no time to complete, and I’m just looking for a helping hand (NOT A HAND OUT) and am willing to compensate you for your time with my services.
I feel horrible for asking but I figured it’s worth a shot.
thanks!

What do you mean by that? Setup as in install modx? or install necessary snippets on top of it and help you get them to work? or create the html code? or everything? I’m not saying that I’d do it, just asking for further details..
"He can have a lollipop any time he wants to. That's what it means to be a programmer."
As far as I’m concerned, bartering is the purest form of commerce there is, so I think it’s great that you were creative enough to propose it instead of just trying to sell a few more photos to someone else and then offer to pay cash to set up your site.
Thank you all for your comments. I’m glad it was well received.
In terms of what I need, I’ll try to explain it as thoroughly as possible.
I can handle the actual install.
I can handle the CSS coding of the website as well, although I will need help converting it to a workable template.
1 What I need is someone to put all the necessary code in place to make the site functional ie. setting up the sections as separate entities that filter by category into their own respective pages (feature, sports, etc..)
2 include a portion on the front page which list the most recent stories. with a thumbnail and teaser copy
3 allow commenting on the actual stories
4 set up a way for general users (our readership) to login and post things to the "blog" - with the admins approval of course
5 create a calendar that correlates with the posts
6 Create a snippet where we could input ads for photo contests etc..
those are the basics. I’m sorry if I’m not making much sense. any tips or takers?
Thank you all so much.
Rami

That’s quite a huge amount of stuff to set up, honestly. Particularly 4, which requires custom work.

I really do understand the amount of skilled work it would take, and I am absolutely willing to put the same amount time and effort into any trade as well. Not all the options are completely neccessary at the moment, especially number 4. Thanks for your input though, I know I seem like I’m asking for a giant hand out.
Thanks!
