    Hi all,

I’m evaluating different CMS app frameworks for my (small) company and need some convincing.
    My rough requirements are:
Easy to use (I like a transparent CMS so I can understand what I’m doing)
Application framework - I have to integrate this with a custom web application developed separately
User Management system - to work together with the web app.
    News, possibly forum

We’re currently only a small start-up company and every bit of time counts so ease of use is important. But equally important is flexibility and the ability to integrate with separate applications. A major concern I have with choosing any CMS are the potential barriers that may crop up in the future when it comes to working with the application framework to setup new custom apps - so please convince me that with MODx this will not be a problem ;-)

Other CMSs that I’m evaluating to do the job are Xaraya, WebGui and Xoops.

I welcome your comments, they are much appreciated.

    Thanks

    DrRog

If this cutom web app is something you developed, and you understand it’s inner workings, then learning the MODx API is just a matter of time looking at the API and getting familiar with using it.

The only prerequisite for *comfortably* using MODx and getting the MOST out of it is an understanding of (X)HTML and CSS, and some PHP knowledge. If you can at least read through the comments and understand the variables that are "settable" in snippet calls, etc..., you will really feel a lot of freedom with MODx, and a relaxed developer is often a more productive developer laugh

First of all, I have to say ’hello’ for everyone.
This is my very first post and I want to say few words about why I choose Modx.
After I installed apache on my local computer, I downloaded and tried over 30 different kinds of CMS and other scripts. Basically I wanted to make simple searchable online catalog with text + picture archive for each item and setup membership site for register users to access that archive. As I used Etomite before I skip Modx in my first try. That is why I look around so long. Then I have visited this forum and read some article about template variable (TV). I came back downloaded and installed Modx and voila – that is what I am looking for.
I made few sites using etomite so I am familiar with this concept, before that I spend long time with phpwcms. After all, from my experience I can tell you that nothing can compare with Modx.
TV is a so valuable option that makes this system so unique. You have full control over your design, System is flexible and you can easily make changes in code to suit your needs. Only Modx you can adjust for almost any situation, from simple few pages site to complex multilevel corporate site. And what is the most important for developers – it is easy for end users.

          Hi,

Thanks for all your advice, much appreciated. After talking to colleagues and reading up on Modx and your suggestions I’ve decided to go ahead with Modx. It is simply the most sound cms app framework out there.
          Cheers
