    hello,

I have learnt php, and can do intermediate level web apps
I have learnt ModX until "template variables" in the documentstion

but how do i make custom web applications using the framework ? What do i have to learn and in what order ?
is there a beginner’s tutorial for this ?

I am not able to understand anything after http://modxcms.com/widgets.html in the documentation

Please tell me the learning path so that i can make custom web development using modx.
    thank you.

That’s a really broad question actually. TVs will be key to anything you do in MODx for custom applications most likely. What type of application do you have in mind? There really isn’t a curriculum per se for custom web development with MODx.

I an thinking of an app for our college to make a library of answers of old question papers.
Students should be able to input old question papers and those who know the answers should be able to write the answers.
And then all the regular stuf such as sorting , filtering, searching, etc.

I have done this app using PHP and XML, but would like to do it all over again with the goodness of ajax, form validation, etc. using ModX.

All i can do with modX right now is convert a web design into modX template( with some template variables of no use smiley ).

Can u tell me what are the things i should learn to make this db-backed app? I’m getting overwhelmed by widgets and API call examples in the documentation.

MODx (not ModX) is a tool that does not limit your ability to work with Ajax, PHP, XHTML, CSS, and other web technologies, and since you already built this application, can you not simply alter the existing PHP/XML code to work within MODx? The only things you would need to work out are security, migrating echo or print statements to be returned as output from MODx snippets, and similar small changes. See the MODx Wiki for additional suggestions and ideas on authoring snippets.

Making use of TV’s will take time and the best way to learn is to review the open source code provided with any relevant MODx add-ons available in the repository.
