I have a client that would like a basic resource listing, but eventually based on location, city primarily.
I’m thinking like you can choose a location and it triggers some sort of cookie or something and then that lists community resources by category and by city.
Any help , thoughts, comments?

Ajax! Should be fun to do. Maybe start with the A-Z listing snippet?
I’m not so worried about the listing,... I’m not topo familiar with the a-z listing snippet, but I’m concerned with the "localized" content.
it would be really sweet if it could be done via IP lookup and geocoding to zips codes or something.
Thanks for the a-z idea though.

neon_eddy,
IP lookups are riddled with problems as there are lots of small and large ISPs that use proxy servers for their customers. AOL is one and some of hte big US telcos do as well.
Craigslist itself delivers its San Francisco page as the default and then you select your locale. Then they issue a cookie for that locale. Simple as that.
I would think that cookies would be better from a usability standpoint since many people may select a locale based on other needs rather than the place in which they are while they access the site initially.
All the best,
Jay
