I just upgraded my test server to php5 and can no longer log in as manager/admin. It just keeps coming back with the error message "The security code you entered didn’t validate! Please try to login again!".

I haven’t done to much work with my installation, so it would be ok with me if I could completely un-install and re-install modx (currently on 0.95).

This is a windows installation, apache 2.054, PHP5.2, MySql (I forget which version).
    Thanks in advance.
    joe

It was not a MODx problem at all... the new php.ini file that came along with the PHP5.2 install needed to be modified for sessions to work properly. Thanks all for taking the time to respond.

There are no issues with PHP 5; I’ve run MODx under it including the latest PHP 5.2 for what I’m certain is more than a year. Are you running MODx 0.9.5?

Thanks for the response. Yes, I am running 0.95. In fact, I just tried a fresh install, starting with a fresh download. With phpmyadmin, i went in and deleted all the tables in the modx database. I recreated the modx db user & password and tried doing the install as a new install. I get to about the third intsall screen where you enter your db name, db user, & password. I clicked on "Test connection" and it just seems to hang there saying "Testing connection..."
I would assume that at some point it would come back and either say something is messed up or everything’s fine.

Maybe I left some residue from the previous install, or maybe something’s screwed up with the dB connection due to my install of php5.2. However, when I bring up another site, SMF seems to work fine.

        Any ideas?
Should I just go through my root directory and make sure everything is squeaky clean and try another fresh install?

        Thanks,
        joe

OK, I tried getting rid of any/all residue from previous installs... No Joy.
I get to the test connection point and it just hangs there telling me that it is testing the connection. I would think that it could do that fairly quickly, but it just sits there saying "Testing connection..."

This is getting a bit frustrating. (I’m known to have the patience of a falling rock)

Test server = local install on a laptop perhaps? Configuring PHP and MySQL can be quite interesting and frustrating. Testing is usually best accomplished via XAMPP or other such similar solutions.

Try clearing all the cookies and the cache on your browser. Sometimes I get this after an upgrade on Linux servers as well.

Yes, it is a local install on a laptop. I had it all working previously and another non-MODx site seems to work fine. I decided to skip the "check connection" step. At the next screen I get this error:
Checking if sessions are properly configured: Failed!
This looks suspiciously like a php configuration issue... any Idea what I have to do to fix it?

UPDATE - I believe I’ve found the problem... now to work on the solution. When I installed php5 it completely replaced the php.ini file that I had been using. I need to go and change the configuration to something closer to what I had before. Thank goodness for winmerge!

BTW, I did as Susan has suggested and cleared cookies and cache to no avail.

Are you sure that the database user has correct permissions to the db? I remember seeing this issue few times before in the forums and many times it was about the user not having permissions to the db.. or the permissions were set to wrong domain... if you use localhost as the address, could try to use 127.0.0.1 if the user is configured to that one..

Thanks. I think that the problem was that when I installed PHP 5.2 the new php.ini file pointed to a file that either did not exist or was write protected. I made some changes to the php.ini file to make the directories that it points to the same as I had for my php4 install and I can now proceed with the install.

                    Wooo Hooo onward and forward.
