I am looking for a RSS plugin that would allow users to sign up for multiple(many multiple possible) pages and get only 1 feed.
It would need to keep track of what pages the users requested rss feeds for then once a day make feeds and push them out to the users. If possible, signup from each individual page or from a (dynamic?) master list with checkbox.
Is there currently such a plugin? If not, could someone recommend a for-hire developer (preferably from the ModX community) that might be able to tackle this at some point.
Example:
Fantasy Football(American) site
Users could go to NFC -> New Orleans Saints -> Drew Brees -> RSS icon
This would place Drew Brees stats in their individual feed
If they go to New Orleans Saints -> Roster, it would show all Saints players with check boxes and any players they are currently receiving in their feed would be selected.
The user could also go to a RSS profile and be presented with a list of all currently subscribed players and be allowed to deselect them.
Truthfully, I am not sure what all this would involve. PHP for the site pages but what of the sending of the feeds? Cron’ing it would be sufficient but would PHP be the recommended way of consolidating each users feed or is their something easier on the server?
Here is what you would need to do:
1. Choose a field in the webusers table you would like to store the RSS data in. Maybe use WebUsers extended...
2. When the user clicks on an RSS icon that url would have its ID in the url string and then pass that (via AJAX?) to a snippet that appends that ID to the array contained in the field.
3. Create a Ditto RSS feed and a snippet that gets the current logged in user from the URL (with authentication) as well as their IDs. The snippet would then place them in placeholders which would be in the Ditto call like so [!Ditto &startID=`[+userRSSIDs+]`]
4. For the manage page you would need to parse the IDs into an array, fetch their titles, and output them with a checkbox next to them. Upon submitting that form, a new list of IDs would be generated and replace the one currently stored in the field.
This solution would be dynamic and not require any cron tasks.
Ah. Ok.
When you explain it, it sounds much easier than my imagination thought it would be. I will muck around with it for a bit.
