Hi, i’ve been looking around for a descent CMS system that had a great user-management system and i found that MODx looks great for this.
I’m doing this because i need to convert a static website, http://www.velewe.be (partial dynamic for news - asp.net coded)
It’s meant to be a site where we register the members that can have access (about 900 members in an access-file, not sure if there is an easy way to import those?)
I’ve also found a module to send out a newsletter to various member-groups, witch is exactly what i’m looking for but i failed to make it work so far.

Still my question is this. I’m good with programming and stuff, but i’m not sure if this will be as userfriendly for the other people that will have to manage the accounts and add/edit pages & news.

I’m also wondering if there is some guide out there that could help me setup the site and maybe a how i can make the current template work with this CMS.

I truelly see much potential in this CMS system, i’m currently using e107 for another website (http://www.thesmoulderingforge.com) where i’ve already managed to write a small addon and a fully functional theme and might even consider converting the whole thing to MODx if i get this one working properly smiley

Thx in advanced for your replies.

To answer your first question, I think it should be possible to import those users, if you manage to output them as a comma delimited list, there are a couple of topics on that one if I’m right (concerning Joomla importing, has to go the same way I think).

Managing accounts could be somewhat difficult, but you can handle quite a lot of it from the frontend, besides that the manager is pretty userfriendly for useraccounts, just setting up the right groups might be a bit tricky. Adding news is really no problem, you can use the ’add article’ page from the default installation to do so, editing them might be a little more tricky though, you could use the QuickEdit functions for that though, perhaps even the ’NewsManager’ that can be found on the forum.

For templating issues you can take a look at the designers guide, which should be pretty straightforward, looking into the default themes might also help you a lot, I think you will have to redesign a little bit in order to get rid of the frames used, I’m not sure if MODx can handle those properly. Also the javascript-intensive menu could get a little tricky.

Hopefully I’ve helped you some, goodluck!

Thanks for the quick reply, mostly never get a reply on e107 forums tongue
I wasn’t planning on using frames, i only did that because the asp.net part is hosted somewhere else smiley
Think i’ll be bussy the next few days trying to make everything work grin

Lets hope it goes fine, so i can tast more of this wonderfull cms wink
