I just installed modx on a windows iis 6, mysql 4.1.21, PHP 4.4.4. My host using H-Sphere and they have beep pretty good so far. I have installed Joomla and Wordpress without any issues.

On the client side, I am using firefox 2 and Vista OS.

The installation went smoothly. However when I try logging in, I keep getting back to the login page without any error message. The user/pass is correct, as when I try an invalid user/pass, the alert window says "Invalid user...etc".

Has anyone had this problem before? Is there a way to enable traces to see what is going on?
The session.save path is set "./" so I can see a 0 byte session file in the manager folder.
The session.use_cookies is on. session.use_only_cookies is Off and session.use_trans_sid is Off.

    Thanks for your help.

The problem as I guessed was with the session. I had to add session_path(’./’) in the manager/include/config.inc.php before session_start() and then I could login.

No one replied, hope it is just the holidays! laugh

        Hi,

Have you try to delete the cookie from your domain, et then retry to login to the manager?
It worked for me when i had this problem...

I tried that. But it is not working. >:(. I have a bunch of session files in different folders in the root and manager folder of my site. I am just about to give up on MoDx. But I know...it is something simple. I was able to login once (only!).

Your PHP configuration needs to handle the session files. They should not be distributed through your web directories, as this would be a huge security issue storing user session data in publicly accessible web directories. Check your PHP ini settings and make sure they are storing the session data in a proper location, or dump IIS and install XAMPP which is properly configured out of the box using Apache.

Thanks OpenGeek. I can’t dump IIS as we have a ASP.NET app running under the same site and I did not want to build a backend to manage a few pages.

Anyways, I created a separate directory in the root of the Modx install called sessions and set the session_save_path("[Actual PHY path]"), e.g. session_save_path("C:\Websites\mywebsite.com\session"). I think for PHP on IIS to handle sessions correctly, the save path needs to be absolute. That is what I got after reading the comments in a generic php.ini file. So for now I think this issue is solved. However, we may need to make the session handling under IIS a bit more robust.. just a suggestion wink.

Now on to customizing it... this should be fun!

                Thanks
