Hello, first i’d like to say what a great product MODx is with top documentation and an interested user-base. I’ve been using MODx for about 4 months now on a number of sites from basic pages to something a little more complex. I’m usually alright searching forums but cannot find what I’m looking for this time so apologies in advance if i’ve overlooked something.
I am using MODx on a Peugeot Owners Club I created (www.club-306.com). It was originally based on an SMF forum and I used the SMF plugin to import my users to MODx. Unfortunately at the time I wasn’t thinking things through enough and all the users are just normal Web Users and are not in a group. Now that I am developing the site to include members-only pages I want to use the MODx system to restrict access to users who have signed up.
The problem I have is I can’t see how I can move a batch of users into a new web group called "ForumUser". The group has been set up and new registrations are automatically added to it. Is there a way that I can move *every* Web User into the ForumUser group or is it going to be a very long experience of moving users individually. I have nearly 1000 registered users so moving them individually is not really an option.
I hope this makes sense, like I said apologies if i’ve missed some magical plugin that does this and also for any typos or grammatical errors in my post as i’m dyslexic and cannot always spot the errors.
Thanks in advance,
John.

This sounds like a job for phpMyAdmin and a query. (Don’t know what to tell you beyond that... unfortunately there is no functional Doc Manager for users.)

Thanks Ryan, I had a feeling it would be an SQL statement to build.
Can anyone briefly explain how MODx decides which user is in which user groups? I have had a look at the schema and it doesn’t look like it’s in the member table. From what I can see there is a web_user_groups table that appears to have an auto-increment followed by webgroup_id then webuser_id. Is there anything else I need to consider of is it as simple as this?
Would I be looking for something along the lines of:
Get the IDs from the web_users table,
Insert into the web_user_groups table based on the fact that the group_id I need is ’3’

You’ve got the right idea John. Give it a try and if you have any problems, post back.
