    When I tried to upload a Flash item I recieved this message when using IE
    invalid xml response from connector
    and this message when using Firefox
    Error, Failed to upload file, internal error

    There is a Flash icon in the editor for uploading to the Flash folder. Does it not work like the Image icon for uploading pictures?
    I am using MODx(sorry do not know the version) with FCKeditor.
    Please understand I am not a web designer, I just update 2-3 web sites with new info ,pictures, etc.

      No idea about the FCKeditor, but here what I do.........

      Flash, as portrayed on the web, is usually a .swf file. I upload the .swf file to the "/assets/flash" folder.

      That .swf file then needs to be "imbedded" in the html between a couple of object tags, and some other stuff that Flash produces when publishing the files. For a movie called MyFlash.swf you would probably get a variant of this to add to the html code...

      <object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,0,0" width="760" height="440" id="MyFlash" align="middle">
      <param name="allowScriptAccess" value="sameDomain" />
      <param name="movie" value="MyFlash.swf" /><param name="quality" value="high" /><param name="bgcolor" value="#ffffff" /><embed src="MyFlash.swf" quality="high" bgcolor="#ffffff" width="760" height="440" name="MyFlash" align="middle" allowScriptAccess="sameDomain" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" />
      </object>

      Now you could throw that in your template or your page contents or where ever, I make a chunk out of it myself.

      ... but it won’t work, as the path would be wrong. Since ModX treats every file as being on the same level as the index page you have to point your html code towards the .swf file by adding.....

      <object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="h ttp://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,0,0" width="760" height="440" id="MyFlash" align="middle">
      <param name="allowScriptAccess" value="sameDomain" />
      <param name="movie" value="assets/flash/MyFlash.swf" /><param name="quality" value="high" /><param name="bgcolor" value="#ffffff" /><embed src="assets/flash/MyFlash.swf" quality="high" bgcolor="#ffffff" width="760" height="440" name="MyFlash" align="middle" allowScriptAccess="sameDomain" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="h ttp://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" />
      </object>

      ... to both paths.

      Hope that helps.

        I upload the .swf file to the "/assets/flash" folder.
        There is no such folder, tried to make one and use it but it does not allow you upload .swf. I tried pasting your code, with my swf file inserted, into the template, but no luck. The menu on the editor has a Flash upload icon(same as for photos) but you cannot upload the flash files?

          In the manager if you go to "resources" >> "manage files" >> "assets" there should be a "flash" folder.

          Sorry I have no idea about the capabilities of the Editor.

          What version of ModX are you using, btw?

            I did go there and tried to upload the .swf files but was given message that that typt of file was not allowed. Seemed strange to me but???

            I am sorry but I do not know the version, I just update the site not manage nor design. Seems even the guy who did the design is baffled why the flash icon on the menu bar does not allow uploads, when you click the image icon, you upload photos the flash icon is basically the same click the icon, goes to upload page, browse for your swf files click upload and then I get the then get the error message.

              The version number will either be visible on the far upper right of the page, or if you hover the mouse over the text on the far upper right (in my case, the text says "0.9.5 RC3", and when I hover over it it says Rev 3017).

              As far as being able to upload various file types, check the Configuration, there are two places that specify what file types can be uploaded. One (for the File Manager) is in the last tab, the other is in the tab that specifies your site’s editor. Then when you are sure those have the file type you want (.swf for example) go to the user manager and check the settings for your user (manager user, not web user). In the second tab, make sure the "use system configuration" box is checked, or specify the allowed types for that user.

              All that may vary a little depending on your version, but if you look around in the Configuration and user settings you should find the fields I’m talking about.

              I also seem to remember some kind of problems with having both Flash and Media file types specified for the RTE, I don’t remember exactly what the situation was. It’s mentioned in the changelist here http://modxcms.com/TinyMCE-498.html
