Ok, so I am posting to ask for some help and opinions.

I have a good grasp on CSS and XHTML and would love to learn PHP and mySQL to continue to develop my skills and recreate a couple of sites to allow for more dynamic content. I would also love for other users to have access to their sections and be able to take to load off of me to update their items for them.

    So here are the questions:

What is a good book or resource for learning PHP?

What are good resources for learning my SQL, book preferably?

Is there a good resource to learn about using CMS systems in general? I am working with MODx right now just learning how it works and stuff on a local machine, not ready to deploy it to a true public server.

I really appreciate any input you all could provide, and hopefully this will create a good thread for future users.

    Thanks in advance!

I think Kevin Yank’s SitePoint book would be a great starting point. In fact it’s about building a basic CMS with PHP and MySQL, and he’s also posted on these forums:

      Best of luck!
