Hi, folks. In my day job, I am an IT Director and manage this recently-redesigned website:
http://www.ascp.com/
Against my better judgement, we got roped into a lousy situation where we were oversold and under-delivered a very lame CMS scenario. Instead of my goal of having a flexible, open system, we are instead stuck in a bunch of proprietary technologies, all of which I hate: Oracle, ColdFusion, CommonSpot, and Red Hat Enterprise Linux. I would LOVE to replace those with, respectively, MySQL, PHP, MODx, and Mac OS X (or at least Debian).
The current setup is a lot of templating, but not much else. A large part of the project would be writing a new template for MODx. All of the content is just plain HTML (with ColdFusion markup tags interspersed) stored in an Oracle DB. Hopefully it can be extracted and fairly easily converted, and perhaps the CF tags could be converted as well.
Oh, I guess there is a little extra complexity in that the member-login is integrated with a FileMaker database, but we can handle that part of the project in-house.
So... here are some questions:
Has anyone ever done anything like this?
Is MODx up to this task?
Would anyone want to give a preliminary, rough, ballpark bid on performing this task?
We have the resources to do this in-house, but it would take us a long time to get around to it. If someone would be capable of doing it for a reasonable price, I may be able to get budget to do that. (Though perhaps I should wait for MODx 1.0?) Someone local to the Washington, DC area would be ideal.
Any opinions are very welcome. Thanks!
