    Hello, all. I was eagerly anticipating a simple installation of modx 0.9.2.2 on Fedora Core 3. All seemed smooth with no error messages including the database test but, as soon as I tried to connect to the manager, I was confronted with a "Failed to create the database connection!" error message. I then tried to go to the main index.php page and received a little more explicit error message:

    « MODx Parse Error »
    MODx encountered the following error while attempting to parse the requested resource:
    « PHP Parse Error »

    PHP error debug
    Error: mysql_connect(): Access denied for user ’modx’@’localhost’ (using password: YES)
    Error type/ Nr.: Warning - 2
    File: /usr/local/modxsite/modx/manager/includes/extenders/dbapi.mysql.class.inc.php
    Line: 85
    Line 85 source: if (!$this->conn = ($persist ? mysql_pconnect($host, $uid, $pwd) : mysql_connect($host, $uid, $pwd))) {

    Parser timing
    MySQL: 0.0000 s s (0 Requests)
    PHP: 0.0257 s s
    Total: 0.0257 s s

    The database information in manager/includes/config.inc.php is correct and I can manually login using the mysql client with the supplied credentials. The modx database exists and has been populated.

    I thought the error might be that I was using mysql 3.23.58 (default from fedora core 3) so I painfully upgraded to 4.1.22 including the compatibility libs (for php-mysql-4.3.11-2.8) but still no luck.

    At this point I am stuck and the company will probably go with Website Baker if I can’t get this running shortly to demonstrate modx. Where do I look? What did I do wrong? How do I fix it? Thanks - John
