I have simple HTML site that organized in a way:
    (site about dogs)

    /index.html
    /dog-training/index.html
    /dog-training/dog-behavior-training.html
    /dog-training/dog-agility-training.html
    /dog-training/dog-obedience-training.html
    /dog-training/puppy-training/index.html
    /dog-training/puppy-training/puppy-dog-training-first-week.html
    /dog-training/puppy-training/puppy-dog-training-collar-leash-stairs.html
    /dog-training/puppy-training/puppy-dog-house-training.html

Having index.html under each dir allows me to share links like:
    http://www.mydogsite.com/dog-training/puppy-training

Now - when Modx imports it - it assigns separate menu item to directory ’dog-training’ and to ’puppy-training’ as well.
This menu item is essentially empty, but if I will mark it as "non-menu" item - anything under it is not displayed as well.

So I found how to resolve it manually:

    - I copying contents of every index.html into it’s paren’t directory "contents"
    - Mark index.html as unpublished and non-menu item.

This way ModX allows referencing site’s areas via directory name (http://www.mydogsite.com/dog-training)

But I wonder if there is a way to either do it automatically - or arrange original site’s structure somehow to avoid these manual steps?
My HTML site is pretty large so doing it manually after importing is pretty time consuming.

You could alter the import routine to do what you are wanting with index pages, or see http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,8774.msg61857.html#msg61857 for a way to have those folders automatically redirect to a document within that folder with an alias of ’index’...
