I am now contemplating upgrading 0.9.5RC2 (which I am currently using) to 0.9.5RC3, and I have a couple of questions about the upgrade procedure...

I HAVE read the Wiki upgrade guide

    http://wiki.modxcms.com/index.php/Upgrading_Guide

which answered many of my questions, but not all.

Looking at the "alternate method" - it mentions "copy any snippets you need" and "copy any images, CSS, templates" etc. into the new site..

But what does this actually mean?

Let’s take a snippet for example, it may consist of the PHP that you typed/pasted into the manager, and additionally some files stored in asset/snippets/<snippetname>... I assume that the PHP typed into the manager is actually stored in the database, and hence only the files need be transferred? Is this correct? Ditto for templates?

Chunks are stored in the DB, yes? So nothing need be done with them, as they will just magically appear in the upgraded installation?

For something like images uploaded by MaxiGallery, is it sufficient just to copy "assets/galleries"?

Sorry if these are all obvious, but (obviously) this is my first upgrade, and I don’t really want to mess it all up...

    Cheers

    Gordon

PS As I am having no problems with RC2, should I just wait a few weeks and jump straight to final version?

RC2 is broken and you’re only a waiting-game away for issues to inevitably arise. tongue
