I’ve been trying to find information on this and not really having any luck. If anyone can point me to some sort of information on importing data from other systems I would greatly appreciate it. I always just end up in items referencing the website import tool but that seems to be very focused on bringing in static sites.

Is the only option to wget my site into static pages and import from there?

    Thanks for any help.

      Hi Patrick,

So far, surprisingly, very few people have requested to import their website from another system.
      I don’t know why.

There is (to my knowledge) no script to import from txp (I am not aware of any import script for that matter... maybe from Eto ?).

Correct me if I am wrong but most scripts are MySQL querries to import tables from the ancient system to the tables of the new system. Writing such a script would require knowledge of MySQL querries + knowledge of both system table structure and, I guess, inner workings. I lack the MySQL part of the equation, unfortunatlely.

What I could do though is "map" tables to one another on a schema and maybe someone could do the MySQL part of the import thing ?
But that won’t be this week, pretty busy as it is...

PS : Nice to see you’re actually thinking about using MODx for one of your projects grin

        Can TXP export static HTML?
No, I don't know what OpenGeek's saying half the time either.

I can get static html out of it if I need to without much difficulty. I guess I was more wondering if there is some sort of import API or at least something explaining how the Database structure relates to the content structure.

The part that sort of had me stuck on the static site import was on how to bring in things like comments which are their content elements but tied to other content elements.

@David: No hurry on this, I just figured I’d check because I wanted to see about maybe doing a test migration of my personal to see if it’s an option. I always like running my own site on systems I recommend.

TXP’s database setup is fairly simple that it shouldn’t be too hard to move stuff from it to another schema I think my SQL could probably handle it. I thought I would see if there were any documents or references I could use for the MODx side of things before I started pulling my hair out trying to figure it all out.

BTW: I was talking up MODx a lot with my old co-workers at UVa and looks like one them finally decided to listen to me and is pretty happy. One more for the testimonials smiley

That link seems to be offline... maybe a typo?

Worked for me... nice, yes, but it goes on to say that he hasn’t yet actually done anything with it. This was a couple of weeks ago, a follow-up would be nice.

The environment at UVa is currently less then ideal for serious use of PHP and MySQL apps. They are working on fixing that but it can be sloooow.
