I have built an entire site with modx and I really like it but it is a site for someone else and they now want it to work like myspace allowing the users to build their own web pages. Is this possable with modx and if so can someone point me in the right direction to make this happen? If there is a module for this I must have missed it cause’ I can’t seem to find anything. I am still learning the whole "social site" thing so maybe I was looking in the wrong place. Please help!

There’s been lots of inquiries like this, but it doesn’t exist right now natively in MODx. Lots of solutions can be made to work once you become intimately familiar with MODx, but the development pace is pretty interesting lately and the stuff that applies today might not in the future. Best of luck!

Hi Meek! Here’s some random thoughts comming from a newbie!

I’m to are trying to build a myspace-like solution within MODx. I spent lots of time reading about this subject here on the forums, and there are no ready made solutions yet. But on the other hand I’ve found out that MODx is the perfect framework for building this kind of solution!

As I’m pretty new to both MODx and PHP, it was for me a show stopper missing a ready made module for this. So instead of waiting for a solution I thought this would be the perfect time to really dig in and learn MODx, php and MySql. So I’ve started to build an add-on for community building which I’m designing to be able to be used for others to. Believe me, this is a great way of learning, I’m currently spending at least 15 hours a day studying MODx, php and all the other things one need to know about when building advanced and customized solutions.

But as rthrash wrote, there are lot of activity in this field, and I guess that before I can present anything usefull, there will be solutions released that are much better than what I as a newbie can produce. However, I have lots of ideas, and I already managed to build some interesting stuff working great on my test site.

Everything you need to build this are present in MODx and it’s add-ons already now. Jot, eForm, Ditto and all the other greats snippets can be used to make a fantastic solution, but it sure isn’t a "quick fix". Yet!

          Good luck!
