That’s what Ditto does. It displays summaries of documents in a given folder/container. For just one given document, try a TV with @DOCUMENT binding.

In review, I can use the standard longtitle/content in my template and have it display content on every page without errors. Except that I can’t style the first entry on any given page (all entries look the same).

I can use Ditto to display my content, but only on pages that are folders and nothing else (unless I specify the startID). The first post styling worked like a charm (thanks, Susan), but I get parsing errors on all pages but folder pages.

Looks like I’m going to have to ditch this effort for a while and do without the first post styling. I’ve already spent more than a day on this and I’ve got to wrap this project up.

      Thanks for the help everyone.

OK. I made it a little further. I got Ditto to work without parsing errors on my site:

        [[Ditto? &startID=`2` &summarize=`2` &total=`5` &tpl=`DittoDisplay` &tplFirstRow=`DittoHighlight` &showarch=`1` &truncLen=`10` &truncSplit=`0`]]

My new problem is now my original-before-Ditto problem. In DittoDisplay and DittoHighlight, I’m making a call to longtitle+content in each, so it comes back to the same as just having two long titles on the same template page... it displays the same content. If I change DittoDisplay to something other than longtitle+content, it then reads from my startID and displays the content from that page. At this point, Ditto is behaving exactly as I am telling it to, which is wrong. I need Ditto to display the documents for a page in order, without specifying the startID like so:

        Blog page:

        • document 1 (DittoHighlight CSS)
        • document 2 (DittoDisplay CSS)
        • document 3 (DittoDisplay CSS)
        • document 4(DittoDisplay CSS)

Any ideas? The TV/Chunk binding was overkill (and over my head) for what I need here.

Are you sure in your templates you are using placeholders instead of modx tags - [+longtitle+] instead of [*longtitle*]?

I guess that’s part of my problem. I’ve read through a majority of the MODx documentation, but I seemed to have missed the part where it explains the difference between [+longtitle+] and [*longtitle*].

I’m using [*longtitle*] since that’s what I found used before in other templates. I’m guessing I should try [+longtitle+] (coupled with [+#content+] instead of [*#content*]), but I don’t yet know why I’m making this change.

            Thanks for the clues!

If you use [*longtitle*] it will give the long title of that page, so if you use that in your ditto template, it will show the longtitle of the current page for each news summary! However, [+longtitle+] is used by Ditto to map to the longtitle of the document being summarized, so it will be different for each one.

Do not use [+#content+] to subsitute for [*#content*]!
