You can upgrade that old site to the new beta if you want. Btw, there is RC2 available also and you should use that.

If you need to move servers at the same time, first you have to move the old site to the new server. So FTP the old site files over to the new server, dump the old database and import it to your new database server, change config.inc.php to have new user details etc.. and test that the site works ok in the new location.

Then FTP the beta files to the new server overwriting the existing files. Then access /install using your web browser and run the installation in Upgrade mode. If you select the new snippets in the upgrade process, make sure that you haven’t modified any of the old version, because this will overwrite them. If you have modified something and need to keep those, go and rename those snippets in your manager before running the upgrade process.

Why would you want to use the older beta when there is RC2 available? Release Candidates comes after the betas you know.. and many bugs fixed in those.. so I would really suggest to use the RC2.
