Yes you need Ditto... there are others but Ditto is the best and it’s quite easy to use. You can make a new document for each blog story and gather them on one page with a Ditto call.
Thanks for MODx - I love it!

Both of my sites (see my sig) use Ditto for the Articles and Design sections. I suppose that’s a type of a blog, after all.

Well for the start you could read http://modxcms.com/blog-tutorial.html and compare it with http://modxcms.com/ditto_documentation.html so you can use ditto instead of the old newslisting. If you have problems adapting from newslisting to ditto just say it here. It’s very easy and in general you only have to replace the snippet name

and to get urls like you want, use friendly alias paths in modx.. If you want commenting on your blog, use Jot.

My wife’s blog (www.specialfamilies.org/blog.html) is run using Ditto. There is a UserComments & UserCommentsCount snippet for comments. Also using a TvTagCloud snippet and the built in tag filtering in Ditto for the see also links (each blog post has a comma separated list of tags). Finally a simple custom snippet lists the tags as see also links.

Its all been pretty easy with ModX, though I think there are a few facilities you’d get with a dedicated blog tool such as automatic pinging, better archiving and including tags in the RSS output (I believe this is in the latest Ditto though).
