Is there a tutorial or could someone provide me instructions on how to create a subnav in MODX that changes to reflect the content in that area?

I’m not sure what you mean. You can put a collection of documents under a container document in the manager, and then call Wayfinder, specifying the startID as the container document. You will then have a list of those documents that you can style into a menu.
