What if there are 1,000 documents in a folder? Will it crash the manager while trying to load the document list into the tree?
Have the developers try to generate a mass of random documents to MODx? If yes what is the test results?

It’s completely dependent on the hardware you’re running on. There are several university sites running 2000-3000 documents. Others have tested with around 10,000 documents, though I wouldn’t recommend more than 5000 or so at this point due to the caching implementation.

I believe it can handle such amount of documents in the manager, what I am worried is that if a folder contains say 1,000 document, the tree will have to show all of them and looking for document will be very tedious which the narrow bar and limited search capability.
I believe the tree only has to show them on expansion, due to Ajax. (I may be wrong).
I do agree that alternate left-pane views need to be considered.
I keep thinking on what can be done to improve this and do you guys think we can make it like file explorer? Where clicking on a folder on the left pane will load the paginated content list on the right pane?
I’d rather just see a paginated list on the left, or customisable views. I guess that could include such a setup, but I would have thought it would lead to more loading and reloading of the content in the right pane as you open up each document.
