    Actually.........

thinking about the idea of dynamic CSS and creating table-less layouts of course, this probably wouldn’t be so far off.

May have to pass on the auto-billing though, after all, want to maintain some kind of job security wink

Sarcasam asside an auto template generation system might be nice for the newbies - dont know how you would go about doing this, for me however I do this myself, otherwise us web desigers are going to starve.

Well, in the last two years, I have gone from knowing nothing about html outside of "dreamweaver MX does that for me" to becoming proficient with XHTML 1.1 (et al) and CSS to learning PHP because I wanted to contribute to MODx to learning OO PHP because Jason (OpenGeek) said I should (thanks Jason, you were totally right!) to learning objective C and programing in Xcode (Mac OS X). <yikes!!! takes a deep breath...> </breath grin > Let me say,

It would take an immeasurable amount of programming to make a desktop app do that, but what would be cool is to integrate a full featured WYSIWYG editor like dreamweaver into an AJAX app! that would be sweet. next on my list of must learns... JavaScript. anyone know any good books?

Your doing well, I just dont have the brainpower to learn php, I can hack it but I`m afraid if I learn php something else will get pushed out of my brain, can you imagine how slow a dreamweaver module would be, dreamweaver is great but it uses so much resources to run, better to keep the design stuff offiline I think.

Nonsense! I didn’t get my hands on a computer until I was in my 40’s, and didn’t start with PHP until I was almost 50. I have no formal education beyond high school, 40 years ago. Trust me, if I can do it, you can do it.

Acutally, they have found that the more you learn and study, the more folds there are in your brain, thus the more possible neuron connections. So find a nice beginner’s tutorial site, and spend an hour every couple of days with it. You’ll be surprised how quickly you catch on.

Susan, you comment make me happy! I’m 38 and just started learning php, css, xml, html, MySql, DOM, js, MODx and all the other you need to know! I got encouraged by your post! And I do agree, it’s never to late!

In latest two month I’ve learned so much, I even managed to make some pretty advanced snippets communicating with custom tables in the database and so on!

I have plenty of time playing with this, and I’m very determined to get really good! My goal is to be able to contribute with usefull snippets to the community, and I think I might be able to that within a few month.

Stu at CssPlay is a great example, he is 60, and is among the best in css.

It’s never too late, and learning new stuff is really good for your brain! (Not when hitting your head on the wall of frustration maybe wink )

And no, MODx can not replace DW smiley

                    Hi all:

I’m brand new to CMS’s and not 100% certain what they’re capable of. I’ve been doing web design for years with Dreamweaver. I’m wondering if MODx is something that I can now create all my work with rather than Dreamweaver. I’m experienced with PHP, MySQL, Perl, and JavaScript so if any new "language" is needed to use this, then I am willing to try because MODx looks exciting. I also run several forum communities with SMF and seeing that this forum is also powered by SMF, hopefully there will be easy integration between the two.
To start with the last; theres at least one bridge for SMF and also one plugin to include SMF into MODx, so that shouldn’t be a problem.

On the first part: a CMS is a content management system, like the name suggests, it manages the content. Simply said, the only thing you’d need to do is remove the content from your Dreamweaver design, then copy the html into a new style, read the MODx documents on how to add the variables/alter the style.css/.js files and copy the content into new pages. Note that this is the ’easy said’ way, you might have to do some more, but it’s not too hard wink

thats true and I did do a level computers here in the uk about 15 years ago but to by honest I`ve never been very good at logic or maths, in fact I have number blindness - no kidding I struggle to add up simple numbers in my head.

so if you asked me what is 3 + 12 I have to use my fingers or wait while i add it up, the funny thing is quite a few of my design mates have this also, if you ask me what 5 +5 is I can answer that in a millisecond, strange cus the rest of my family will tell you the answer almost before you have finished asking them the question.

So my strong point was design/art - so I did a degree in art rather then computers, but the computer knowlege is almost as important as the design for me anyway.

I`m 34 so 38 is NOT old, if you have the right brain anyway.
