    Hi,

I want to install a cms system for our school and I want to know if modx is right for me. I’m checking out modx for the moment and it seems to me that it is very flexible ...

My site should have: multiple languages - a news section - a forum - image galleries - content about courses taught in our school - and later on: a shopping module to register and pay for courses online

I suppose most of this is no problem but the issue I’m concerned about is the content for active courses.
Let me explain something more about the courses in my site.

The site displays mainly information about given courses/classes in ICT and languages. This information comes from an external system that generates XML files with data about the course (active course, course_id, course_name, course_startdate, course_day, course_info etc. ) . This xml data should be available as content + the the menu navigation should also be dynamically retrieved from the active courses in this xml data.

    Example:
    My menu main level:
    Languages - ICT - News - .
    Sublevel of Languages:
    -English
    -Dutch
    -French
    -German
    etc.

Every language should refer to a content page where a datagrid is displayed with info about this course. The datagrid should show info of the parent-id clicked in the menu ....

How do I start for a site like this with modx?
Can modx handle the xml file with @file or should I try to import the xml into another db first?

    Any help-tips-suggestions much appreciated.

The menu navigation shouldn’t be much of a problem I suppose, you can do that with Wayfinder and the build in document tree I suppose.

Multiple languages - that’s one thing I haven’t found so far, though I’d be interested in that as well.

With the backend I can’t help you as I’m neither much experienced with PHP nor MODx, hopefully you can at least get started a bit with this (and will others notice your thread as it’s bumped now).
