    Hello,

we would like to use MODx in our projects. A functionality we often need is to create custom data-entry/editing forms on the administration (backside) part of the CMS, f.e. for custom data (personel, newsitems, files etc.). How can this be done in MODx?

You would need to create a module for this purpose. I’d look at Doc Manager as an example in the latest SVN trunk.

Olaf, right now, this would require you to write a php page in the manager and hook it into the manager interface via core files, unless it could be added to an existing page via a plugin.

I’ve done many similar projects, but I tend to create management interfaces that are nothing more than a set of protected front-end pages which use snippets to generated tables and forms via the MakeForm and MakeTable helper classes.

There is work being done to make this much easier to do in the future, by creating pages for the back-end as you would for the front-end (snippets, chunks, placeholders, TV’s etc.). This and other new features coming down the pike will directly address this need in a way that will not require core hacking.

I’ve quite hacking the core a long time ago, and use modules. Usually you can just duplicate a module that has a similar interface to what you have in mind, and then add your own code, or a folder full of php files and include them. They can use all the $modx object methods, too. Even to getChunk and runSnippet. I prefer to keep management stuff in the Manager, not as part of the front-end, just to avoid confusion.
