Upgraded from 0.9.1 (646) to 0.9.5 (1902) and
* Button Frame was refering to <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="media/style/MODxLight/l4navbar.css?" /> but l4navbar.css didn’t exist, so display incorrectly (made a symlink to style.css and that fixed the problem)
* Version number on the manager still displays "MODx 0.9.1 (rev 646) "
Thanks

You didn’t fully transfer all the files over then. Easiest way to upgrade and make sure everything gets put in properly is to move your existing site into a folder, then copy your new install files up. Copy your config file from /backup-folder/manager/includes/config.inc.php into your new /manager/includes/ folder. Then add back any custom files (to your site) found in /backup-folder/assets/.
Let us know if that helps.

I found another easy way is to rename the new folders/files to "index.php-new", "manager-new", "assets-new". Upload them.
Now rename the old ones "manager-old", "assets-old", etc. and rename your new ones to remove the -new part. Now copy the config.inc.php file to the new manager/includes folder, copy any snippets/templates whatever from the old assets folder to the new one, run the installer, and if all is well, delete the old ones.
EDIT: I’m about to add the following method to the wiki.
EDIT2: Added, needs tidying.
Most people will find Susan’s way easier, and it reduces the time that your site is unavailable (uploading all the files can take a long time!)
Here’s a method that will have the least downtime:
Download everything from your site.
Make a copy of your database.
Basically, make sure you have all the old files backed up so that you can restore the old version if you need to.
Create a new local directory called MODxNew (or whatever you prefer).
Extract the new MODx files to that directory.
From your backup, *copy* the config.inc.php file to manager/includes
Copy any snippets you need into the appropriate parts of MODxNew.
Copy any images, css, template files etc into the appropriate parts of MODxNew.
Rename the new folders/files to "index.php-new", "manager-new", "assets-new". Don’t rename "install".
Upload them (and install). This takes a while.
Run yoursite.com/install in your browser.
Switch the names of the existing folders/files to "index.php-old", "manager-old", "assets-old".
From this point, your site is not working.
Change the names of the newfolders/files to "index.php", "manager", "assets".
From this point, your site should be working again. If it isn’t, switch the folder names back!
You should then be able to delete all the -old directories.
You should also, as a result, have a local backup of the old site, and a local backup of the new site.
(For a truly graceful switchover, you could change your .htaccess to redirect all traffic to another .php page while you test everything).
