    Hi all,

Having found ModX, I think it’s brilliant. Well done to everybody involved. I haven’t yet used it to build a website, but plan on doing so shortly for a client.

However, the client in question has a specific requirement. He wants the menu items to be in a specific font (an old english ’blackadder’ style font, which I have as a .ttf). I am aware that there are methods of replacing text with a PHP generated image on the fly, and using CSS to show this background image whilst hiding the link text, though I have not yet done this in practise.

My question is: Is there a method already available in ModX to create for example, a vertical menu, having each menu entry replaced on-the-fly by a PHP generated image derived from a .ttf font? I searched but found nothing conclusive.

Altenatively, I suppose I could build my site with my main menu links being static and link them to the relevant sections myself, but that removes so much of the benefits of this CMF.

Perhaps somebody can help or offer suggestions?

    Regards,

    Andy

There is a way of embedding fonts in a webpage for IE only; I’m not sure exactly how well this would work on a dynamically generated page, though. http://www.sean.co.uk/a/webdesign/embedding_fonts_in_webpages.shtm

          sotwell:
Thanks for the suggestion. I didn’t know about IE font embedding, but I’m interested in a cross-browser solution so it wont help me.

Yeah, basically my client wants ’pretty fonts’. I checked out your link, and also found another non-flash based solution which looks good at http://www.stewartspeak.com/projects/dtr/.

Having researched this somewhat, I think I’ll use one of the two latter solutions to replace <h2> tags only (not menu items), and hard code the main menus with CSS image rollovers as it’s the only way I can think of at the moment to get it to work.

          Thanks for the suggestions.
