    There are certain aspects of the modxcms.com site ITSELF that I really like, and would like to know how they are done.

    Is there a description anywhere of "templates/snippets/chunks used on this site"? I have tried searching but it is hard to phrase the search properly - if I use "modxcms.com / snippet / chunk" etc in a search then I get lots of general documentation rather than what I am looking for.

    If anyone knows offhand, then the things that I really like and want to replicate are

    (1) the main documentation page that has a neat "table of contents" look to it with the main "chapter headings" like "Getting Started" and then the contents of that chapter indented ...

    (2) the navigable breadcrumb trail in the main "Resources" page.. (I am guessing this is CascadingMenu.)

    But there are lots of other aspects that I would like to explore at my leisure, so if these are described anywhere, then it would be much appreciated...

    Cheers

      1) Is an older version of DropMenu. Use Wayfinder now.

      2) Breadcrumbs snippet.

      Most of the core functionality is all custom snippets, including the repository and API documentation. Much of the site will be slowly rebuilt after the 095 release to make it better and even more simple to maintain.

      Hope this helps!

        Thanks for that - I’m still not quite sure how all the parts of MODx fit together at this point, though I have already seen enough to know that this is the right CMS for what I want.

        Going back to the documentation page.. the main content part that starts like:

        Getting Started
        -> What is MODx
        -> Installation and Configuration

        Content Editors Guide
        -> Who Should Read This?

        Is that ENTIRE page generated automatically by the snippet? Is that done by passing the snippet the location of a folder that contains all those pages as individual content? And is the menu itself just done by using another copy of the same snippet with different values? Or have I got confused again?

        Sorry if it is a dumb question, but I’m still trying to get my head around where the various bits of a MODx page are assembled from, and snippets, chunks and TVs are flying in and out of my brain [mostly out]

        Thanks

        Gordon

          With Wayfinder, you just call it with the document/folder to use as the "parent", then for the top level and sublevels you can specify either a template to use for that level, or specify classnames to use. This way you can easily style the levels in your CSS.
